About Faith & Inspiration
Fanny Crosby wrote "Blessed Assurance" in 1873, the melody already composed by her friend Phoebe Knapp, who simply asked what the tune "said" to her. The words that poured out — glory, mercy, watching, waiting, rapture — have been sung by heart in sanctuaries and parlors ever since. It is a hymn of quiet certainty, of a spirit resting in something larger than worry or want.
