About Pass the Gravy

Sunday dinner had its own choreography, the gravy boat traveling from hand to hand, the mashed potatoes in the big ceramic bowl, the bread basket passed before anyone even sat down. A good linen napkin landed in your lap, the platter was carved at the head of the table, and for one hour the whole house smelled like drippings and warmth. Everything moved in a slow, generous circle, and nobody left hungry.
