About A Game of Chess

Chess is one of the oldest strategy games still played in its recognizable form, tracing its roots to sixth-century India before spreading westward through Persia and into medieval Europe. Each piece moves by its own strict logic, the rook sweeps open files, the bishop commands long diagonals, the knight leaps in its unmistakable L-shape, and together they create a landscape of almost infinite possibility. Whether played at a kitchen table with a battered wooden set or in hushed tournament halls, the game rewards patience, imagination, and the quiet thrill of seeing a plan come together.

How to play

  1. 1
    Find a word.Tap its first letter, then tap along to its last. The trail fills in and finishes itself when it spells a word. Or press the first letter and drag.
  2. 2
    Words run in straight lines.Across and down, and on the harder difficulties diagonally and backwards.
  3. 3
    It marks itself.Each word you find takes on its own soft colour on the grid and is crossed off the list.
