About The Four Suits

A standard deck holds fifty-two cards split evenly across four suits, hearts and diamonds in red, spades and clubs in black. The suits trace their roots through centuries of card-playing traditions, from the French tarot packs of the 15th century to the corner-index designs that made it easy to fan a hand without revealing your cards to a neighbor. Sit down at any card table around the world and those four familiar symbols speak a shared language before a single word is said.
