About Distant Galaxies
Edwin Hubble showed in 1924 that the Andromeda nebula was a galaxy far outside the Milky Way, and the count has only climbed since, to hundreds of billions of them, each held together by gravity and dark matter. He also sorted them into the spiral, barred and elliptical shapes still used today, while dwarf galaxies, great clusters and the enormous voids between them were mapped in the decades after.
How to play
