About Ring the Buzzer
Jeopardy! has used signaling buttons since it premiered in 1964, and its modern format makes contestants wait until the host finishes reading a clue before the buzzer will register, so jumping early costs a fraction of a second. That one rule changed how people play. On shows like Family Feud, the two family members at the podium slap a lit button on the desk, and the first light on the board decides who gets to answer. Older quiz panels leaned on handheld clickers, which were easy for the camera to catch. The sound varies from show to show, a flat buzz here, a bell there, a bright ding for a right answer, and regular viewers can tell which program is on from the next room.
How to play
- 1Find a word.Tap its first letter, then tap along to its last. The trail fills in and finishes itself when it spells a word. Or press the first letter and drag.
- 2Words run in straight lines.Across and down, and on the harder difficulties diagonally and backwards.
