Gordon's private cabin gives up its tenant slowly: good suits, a locked drawer with nothing in it, and at last, rolled behind the wardrobe, a blueprint, professionally drawn, recently dated. It shows the Lakeview's shore with the Lakeview gone. A marina where the pavilion stands. Slips and a fuel jetty along the cabana row. A parking apron over the croquet lawn, a clubhouse, and no staff quarters at all. Paul Ostrander looks at it with his jaw set. Six years I have held his letter about the partnership, he says. Six years of next season, Paul. He turns from the drawing like a man turning from a window. You cannot be made partner in a marina you never heard of.
