Chapter 8 of 10
The Skyway opened again on Sunday night, because Nadine said Roscoe would have wanted it. At seven, before the gates opened, Floyd Yancey tapped on the box-office glass. "Lois, could I have a word?" He still had his drugstore jacket on. "Last night you sold me one ticket." "For one person," Lois said, "in a car that sat very low in the back." Floyd went pink to the ears. "I'd be grateful if it stayed one person." "Then tell me what you saw from the back row." He looked over his shoulder. "There was a man walking along the fence toward the screen, a little after twenty to ten, with no flashlight." Floyd held up his own pale hands. "His hands were white, like a waiter's. I thought it was gloves, which is a strange thing in August."

How a mystery chapter works
- 1Read the scene first.Every chapter opens with a scene from the case. The word list is drawn from it, and so is the clue.
- 2Find the words.Tap a word's first letter, then tap along to its last, or press and drag. Found words color themselves in and cross off the list.
- 3One listed word is not in the grid.Find the other nine and the word left over is the chapter's clue. Note it down, or let the case page keep it for you.
- 4The finale needs every clue. The last puzzle's word list is the clues you collected, and once you find them all, the leftover letters spell out who did it, and why.
