On Monday the film truck was due at eight. At half past seven Lois climbed the booth stairs with Bascom behind her. Merle was at the bench in his new gloves, cutting the big reel apart. "You left this booth at twenty to ten on Saturday," Lois said. "I've never missed a changeover in eleven years. Ask anybody." "You didn't miss one. The dots came up at ten and there was nothing to change, because two parts were on one reel." "That's a guess, Lois." "Then the can for part four should be empty." She picked up the can marked REEL 4 and handed it to Bascom. Bascom opened it. Inside was the Skyway bank bag, sixty dollars short. Merle looked down at his new gloves and didn't say anything.
