A proxy in a copied signature, selling a handshake's half. A second ledger full of the truth. A quarrel under the fireworks, the word thief said twice. An ebb tide circled in fresh pencil. A buyer whose motive needed the dead man alive. A cashbox fed in secret by a daughter. And an empty place at the carousel lever, the first in eleven years. Your word list is your nine clues, the ones you carried here chapter by chapter. Find them in the grid. When the last one is crossed off, the letters left over, read left to right, top to bottom, spell out what the tide was asked to hide.

How a mystery chapter works
