The station manager counts the copies of the script twice, then once more with his coat off. Twelve seasons of the serial, and tonight the finale goes out live from WHRM to three counties of winter. The evening's broadcast is twenty minutes out, the cast is gathering in the studio, and the manager keeps saying the same word: impossible. The pages did not walk out alone. Vera Holt arrives without being called, reads the eleven pages standing, and says nothing at all. Morris Klein does not come out of his office. Fifteen years at one small station teaches a manager exactly whose silence to worry about.

How a mystery chapter works

- 4The finale needs every clue.The last puzzle's word list is the clues you collected, and once you find them all, the leftover letters spell out who did it, and why.
