Chapter 4 of 10
The boathouse is the tidiest building on Gull Point, which for Elias is an achievement. The dory rides its davits, the canvas cover lashed in his particular crossed hitches, undisturbed by the salt crust on the knots. The oars racked, the spare rowlocks on their nails, the grease tin sealed, the painter coiled. Nothing from this shed has touched the water in days. Pratt has Abel row him around the island, checking every ledge and gutter where the sea files its claims. Nothing: no wreckage, no cloth, no boot. The sea here returns what it takes within three tides, and it returns nothing because, Pratt is certain, it was never lent anything. He sits in the stern, notebook shut. An island, two boats accounted for, a man gone: the arithmetic has one remainder, under their keel twice a day.

About this case
A chapter of The Light at Gull Point, a mystery told in word searches. Each chapter leaves you one clue; the finale needs them all.
How a mystery chapter works
- 1Read the scene first.Every chapter opens with a scene from the case. The word list is drawn from it, and so is the clue.
- 2Find the words.Tap a word's first letter, then tap along to its last, or press and drag. Found words colour themselves in and cross off the list.
- 3One listed word is not in the grid.Find the other nine and the word left over is the chapter's clue. Note it down, or let the case page keep it for you.
- 4The finale needs every clue. The last puzzle's word list is the clues you collected, and once you find them all, the leftover letters spell out who did it, and why.
