Put it together the way Pratt finally did, standing on the mainland hook at dead low water with the shingle bar drying at his feet. A lamp left burning in perfect order. A log stopped mid-sentence with the pen capped square. An oilskin and a paper satchel gone. A dory asleep on its davits. A bar that dries for twenty minutes on the equinox spring.
