The final chapter
Judging morning, and the rose tent smells the way June is supposed to. The reinstated entries stand ranked on the trestles, the famous Pruett red at the center like a held note, and the nine clues sit with the committee like a jury that has finished deliberating: the withdrawals, the nameless envelopes, the cut catalogs from the show's own sack, the handbook paste, the left-handed scissors, the missing notebook and its French label, the greenhouse arithmetic, and the fence built around one nurseryman's eye. Your nine clues are the word list now. Find them all, and the letters the puzzle never uses will spell who sent the notes, and for whose sake. At the tent flap, the chairwoman has asked for a moment of the show's time. She is holding the notebook, and her resignation, and she is standing very straight.

About this case
A chapter of The Prize Rose, a mystery told in word searches. Each chapter leaves you one clue; the finale needs them all.
How a mystery chapter works
- 1Read the scene first.Every chapter opens with a scene from the case. The word list is drawn from it, and so is the clue.
- 2Find the words.Tap a word's first letter, then tap along to its last, or press and drag. Found words colour themselves in and cross off the list.
- 3One listed word is not in the grid.Find the other nine and the word left over is the chapter's clue. Note it down, or let the case page keep it for you.
- 4The finale needs every clue. The last puzzle's word list is the clues you collected, and once you find them all, the leftover letters spell out who did it, and why.
