Chapter 6 of 10
On Monday morning Johnny was frying eggs in Sylvie's kitchen in yesterday's shirt. She left him the coffee and took a cab to the Muehlebach. Winnie Benn was at her usual table in the hotel tearoom, with her mink stole over her shoulders in April. "Archie wrote that song for me, honey," Winnie said. "Every word. His songs keep me in this hotel." "Where were you during the interval on Saturday?" "At table one, where Monty put me. I never left it." She buttered a scone. "Johnny says the song has the wrong name on it." "Johnny Lomax was twenty years old and couldn't hold his liquor." Winnie smiled with her mouth only and pushed the plate of scones across the cloth.

How a mystery chapter works
- 1Read the scene first.Every chapter opens with a scene from the case. The word list is drawn from it, and so is the clue.
- 2Find the words.Tap a word's first letter, then tap along to its last, or press and drag. Found words color themselves in and cross off the list.
- 3One listed word is not in the grid.Find the other nine and the word left over is the chapter's clue. Note it down, or let the case page keep it for you.
- 4The finale needs every clue. The last puzzle's word list is the clues you collected, and once you find them all, the leftover letters spell out who did it, and why.
