About Roaring Nightlife
When Prohibition locked the front door, the party simply moved downstairs. Speakeasies bloomed in basements and back rooms across America, lit by low lamps and loud with the trumpet and the drum. Flappers in satin and pearls packed the dance floors, doing the Charleston until the small hours while the city hummed with a restless, glittering energy that no law could quite snuff out.
