A few of the words

MORPHO
The blue isn't pigment. Tiny scales on the wings bend the light, and the underside is a dull brown, which is why the butterfly seems to blink on and off in flight.Find this word in the grid to read its note.
LEAFCUTTER
Leafcutter ants don't eat the leaves they carry. They feed them to a fungus they farm underground, and the fungus is what feeds the colony.Find this word in the grid to read its note.
KATYDID
The name imitates the call. Males sing by rubbing their wings together, and many species look so much like leaves that you hear them long before you spot one.Find this word in the grid to read its note.
TARANTULA
Strictly speaking it's a spider, not an insect, but it crawls the same forest floor and no jungle puzzle feels right without one.Find this word in the grid to read its note.

About Rainforest Insects

Under the canopy, most of the living is done by animals smaller than your thumb. Leafcutter ants carry bits of leaf like green sails down the trail, and a blue morpho drifts through a sunbeam, flashing bright and then vanishing as it folds its wings. By evening the cicadas and katydids take over, and the whole forest seems to hum.
