About Birds of the Bible

Birds move through Scripture like living symbols, the dove returning with an olive branch, the eagle bearing Israel on its wings, the raven that fed Elijah by the brook. In the wilderness, quail blanketed the ground so the hungry could gather meat by evening. Jesus spoke of the hen who longs to gather her chicks under her wings, giving the plainest of farmyard birds a place among the most tender images in the Gospels.
