About The Sea of Galilee

The Sea of Galilee sits in a sunlit basin in northern Israel, fed by the Jordan River and ringed by hills that can funnel sudden, fierce storms across the water. In the Gospels it is a working lake, smelling of fish and tar, its shores busy with nets spread out to dry and wooden boats hauled up on the gravel. It was here that Jesus called fishermen to follow him, calmed the wind and the waves, and fed great crowds on the green hillsides above the water's edge.
