About Coffee Cake & Crumb

Coffee cake doesn't need coffee in the batter, it needs only to be worthy of the cup beside it. At its best it arrives in a golden square dusted with cinnamon, its top a rubble of buttery streusel that shatters at the fork and perfumes the whole kitchen. The swirl inside, brown sugar, spice, maybe a handful of walnuts or pecans, is the quiet reward hidden beneath every tender crumb.
