About Rocks, Gems & Minerals
A geode looks like nothing at all until the hammer finds the seam, and then it opens onto a hollow of purple crystal that's been sitting in the dark for a few million years. The word searches in Rocks, Gems & Minerals are built from that kind of find: garnet for January and peridot for August, quartz on a sunny windowsill, a flake of gold in a creek-bed pan, a bit of amber with an ancient insect caught inside. Some of the puzzles go underground into caves and caverns, where stalactites hang and the air turns cool, and others stay up in the light with diamonds and fine jewelry. Rockhounding is quietly my favorite, all pickaxes and canvas bags and pockets full of rocks that looked better wet. Pick whichever one catches your eye and take your time with it. Nothing here is going anywhere.
