About Loretta Lynn

Loretta Lynn was born in 1932 in Butcher Hollow, a coal-camp hollow in Van Lear, Kentucky, the second of eight children. She married at fifteen and raised her kids in Washington State, and she started singing in clubs after her husband bought her a guitar. Her 1970 song Coal Miner's Daughter told the story plainly, and it grew into a 1976 memoir and a 1980 film. She first appeared on the Opry in 1960, joined as a member in 1962, and stayed.
