About Johnny Cash
Johnny Cash grew up picking cotton in Dyess, Arkansas, and ended up a voice that prison yards and kitchen radios could agree on. He wore black, he said, for the poor and the forgotten, and he played Folsom Prison in January 1968 and San Quentin in 1969 to rooms most singers wouldn't enter. Beside him for much of it was June Carter, of the Carter Family, who sang with him for decades and married him in 1968.
