About Swashbucklers
Hollywood in the 1930s and 40s loved a man with a sword and a rope to swing from. Errol Flynn made the whole business look easy in Captain Blood in 1935 and The Adventures of Robin Hood in 1938, and the matinee crowd came back every week for more. The sets were painted and the cannons were loud, and nobody minded that the villain always lost.
