About Music & Film

On a Friday night in the 1950s, teenagers peeled off their shoes at the gymnasium door and slid onto the polished hardwood in their socks — no scuff marks allowed. The jukebox glowed in the corner, spinning 45s of doo-wop and rockabilly while couples twirled under crepe-paper streamers. A paper cup of soda, a poodle skirt catching the air mid-spin, and a slow croon at the end of the night — that was the sock hop in full bloom.
