About Dry Goods
In the old country store, the dry goods lived in open barrels and cloth sacks, measured out by the scoop or the pound on a brass scale. Cornmeal sat beside navy beans, molasses crocks lined the shelf, and the rich dark smell of coffee beans drifted over everything. A good storekeeper knew his stock by touch, the fine sift of flour, the cool weight of rice pouring through the hand.
