About Seventies Screen
The 1970s rewrote what a film could be, Spielberg's Jaws sent queues snaking round the block in the summer of 1975, and Star Wars lit up the skies two years later. On television, families gathered weekly for the warm Midwestern streets of Happy Days, the searing drama of Roots, and the sardonic humour of M*A*S*H. It was a decade that produced icons, the wisecracking detective, the underdog fighter, the disco queen, and somehow they all felt like neighbours.
