About The Happy Birthday Song Is Copyrighted

On June 27, 1859, Mildred J. Hill was born in Louisville, Kentucky — a composer and music educator whose gentle gift to the world would outlast almost everything else ever written. She crafted the simple, lilting melody that her sister Patty paired with celebratory words, and together they gave every birthday table its soundtrack. "Happy Birthday to You" would go on to be recognized by Guinness World Records as the most recognized song in the English language, sung over candles and cake in nearly every corner of the earth.
