On August 23, 1912, Eugene Curran Kelly was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, into a family where music and movement filled every room. He grew up playing hockey and studying dance, an athlete first, an artist always, and that combination gave his performing style a muscular, acrobatic energy no one had quite seen before. When he splashed down a rain-soaked street in Singin' in the Rain, lamppost in hand, he wasn't just acting happy; he was inventing a new language for what joy could look like on screen.
