On October 11, 1975, the lights came up on a new kind of television. Saturday Night Live premiered live from Studio 8H in New York City, blending sketch comedy, improvisation, and a house band into something American audiences had never quite seen before. The energy of a real studio audience, the crackle of a live broadcast, and the courage of an untested cast made that first curtain call a moment television would never forget.
