About Deck the Halls

Few carols feel as joyfully physical as "Deck the Halls", it asks you to do something, to hang boughs and light fires and raise your voice. The melody itself is centuries old, a Welsh tune called "Nos Galan," and the familiar English words were shaped in the mid-1800s to match its bright, rolling rhythm. Singing it, you can almost feel the warmth of a yule log blazing, smell the sharp green of fresh-cut holly, and hear a whole household breaking into that irresistible fa-la-la chorus together.
