About A Mug of Cider
When the first hard frost nips the orchard grass, the apples that have hung all summer finally come down in armloads, Golden Delicious, McIntosh, Honeycrisp, and the old press goes to work, squeezing out juice the color of amber. A kettle of mulled cider warming on the stove fills the whole house with cinnamon, clove, and something faintly sweet, like caramel and honey mixed together. There is nothing quite like wrapping both hands around a warm mug and breathing in that steam before the first careful sip.
