About Ben Cooper Costumes

For a few decades, a Halloween costume came in a flat cardboard box with a cellophane window so you could see the face before you bought it. Inside was a printed smock that tied at the back and a molded mask held on by a thin elastic band that always seemed to snap by the second block. Ben Cooper, a Brooklyn company, made a great many of them, and most kids wore the same cartoon or monster as half the street.
