About Cairo

Cairo sprawls along the eastern bank of the Nile, its skyline pricked with minarets and crowned here and there with domes that glow amber in the late-afternoon sun. At its heart, the Khan el-Khalili bazaar has drawn merchants, pilgrims, and curious wanderers for centuries, its alleys fragrant with jasmine, copper-worked lamps, and freshly ground spice. Just beyond the city's edge, the Sahara begins and the great pyramids of Giza rise from the plateau — silent sentinels that have watched the river flow past for more than four thousand years.
