About In the Nest
High in the crook of a maple or tucked into a thorny hedgerow, a bird's nest is one of nature's most patient constructions, woven from grass, mud, and stolen threads, shaped by a mother's own breast. For days or weeks the eggs rest in that warm cup, until a tiny beak works its way through the shell and a new, ragged life tumbles into the world. The hatchling that arrives helpless and wide-mouthed grows feather by feather until the morning it grips the rim of the nest, opens its wings, and leaps.
