About Piecing the Top
Piecing a quilt top is as much architecture as it is sewing, each patch cut on the straight grain, each seam pressed to one side so the layers nest cleanly at every junction. Rows grow one block at a time, joined by narrow sashing strips that frame the design like windowpanes. When the last corner seam is trimmed and pressed flat, the whole top unfolds across the floor and the pattern finally reveals itself in full.
