- The kerf is the slot a saw leaves behind, its width is set by how far the teeth are bent outward, just enough to keep the blade from binding in the cut.Find this word in the grid to read its note.
- FLEAM

About The Saw
A handsaw that has been properly set and sharpened is a deeply satisfying thing, the way it glides through a pine board with almost no effort, leaving a clean, pale kerf behind it. Every part of a saw has a name earned over centuries of craft: the gullet, the fleam angle, the taper of the plate, the careful tension of the spine on a back saw. In the workshop, learning to cut to a line is one of the first true skills, and the sound of a smooth crosscut stroke is its own kind of reward.
