About The Aztecs

At the center of a great lake, the Aztec island city rose on causeways and chinampas, floating garden beds coaxed from the water. The Templo Mayor stood at its heart, a stepped pyramid where offerings of jade, obsidian, and cacao honored gods of sun and rain. Traders filled the vast market of Tlatelolco with every treasure the empire gathered: bright feathers, gleaming gold, and the warm green of quetzal plumes that marked a ruler's rank.
