About Mesopotamia
Between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, in what is now Iraq, the earliest cities on Earth took root around 3500 BCE, bustling Uruk, mighty Babylon, the trade-rich streets of Nineveh. Scribes pressed sharpened reeds into wet clay, leaving behind the wedge-shaped marks of cuneiform, one of the world's oldest writing systems. Towering ziggurats rose above the flat floodplain, their stepped mud-brick terraces lifting temples skyward, connecting the people of Sumer and Akkad to the gods they depended on.
How to play
