About Alexander Graham Bell
On March 10, 1876, Alexander Graham Bell spoke the first words ever carried by telephone, "Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you", and his assistant heard every syllable in the next room. Bell had spent years studying the human voice, working with the deaf, and chasing the idea that speech itself could ride an electrical current. The patent he filed just days before a rival arrived at the office secured his place in history, and within a decade, telephone exchanges were humming in cities across America.
