About Benjamin Franklin
On a stormy Philadelphia evening in 1752, Benjamin Franklin flew a silk kite with a metal key tied to its string and drew a spark from the clouds, demonstrating that lightning was electricity and laying the groundwork for the lightning rod. He was equally at home at the printing press, where for years he published Poor Richard's Almanac, filling its pages with wit and practical wisdom. That same restless curiosity gave the world bifocals, the Franklin stove, and a diplomatic career that helped birth a nation.
