About Great Discoveries
Some discoveries arrived with a flash of insight, an apple falling, a mold spreading across a petri dish, a glowing tube casting shadows on the wall. Others were the reward of years of patient, meticulous work: heating and cooling, peering through lenses, filling notebook after notebook by lamplight. Together they form the great chain of human curiosity, each breakthrough opening the door to the next, and the next, and the next.
