About Glenn Miller
Glenn Miller was a trombonist from Iowa who built his best-known orchestra around a clarinet leading a section of saxophones, and that blend is why a Miller record is recognizable in about two bars. His band played the dance halls and radio studios of the late 1930s and early 1940s, and it even turned up on screen in Sun Valley Serenade. In 1942 he joined the Army and led the Army Air Force Band, playing for troops until his plane disappeared over the English Channel in December 1944.
