About The Protest Song

Long before amplifiers and arenas, the protest song traveled by word of mouth, sung on picket lines, in dusty labor halls, and around campfires where people gathered to name what was wrong with the world. Artists like Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and Bob Dylan turned the acoustic guitar and a few honest verses into something that could move thousands without a watt of electricity. The tradition never faded; the melody changes, but the need to sing out, for justice, for freedom, for the ones who can't yet speak, stays as alive as ever.
