About The Wooden Desk

Every schoolroom once had rows of them: wooden desks with cast-iron frames bolted to the floor, each lid worn smooth by generations of elbows and stacked readers. A shallow groove ran along the top to cradle a pencil or a pen nib, and a round hole held the inkwell, dark, cool, faintly sharp with the smell of India ink. Somewhere beneath the varnish, if you looked closely enough, were the initials of children who had sat in that same spot decades before you, pressed in with a penknife during a long Friday afternoon.

How to play
