About The Treaty of Versailles Is Signed

On June 28, 1919, the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles held one of history's most consequential signings: the Treaty of Versailles, which formally ended World War I. Built under Louis XIV as a monument to French glory, the hall stretches nearly 240 feet and is lined with 357 mirrors reflecting seventeen arched windows that face the palace's sweeping gardens. Beyond the mirrors, the palace unfolds into gilded chapels, painted ceilings, marble colonnades, and the geometric grandeur of gardens designed by André Le Nôtre.
