About Babe Ruth's 60th: The 1927 Home Run Record
On September 30, 1927, in the final game of the regular season, Babe Ruth stepped to the plate at Yankee Stadium and drove a Tom Zachary fastball into the right-field bleachers, his 60th home run of the year. The crowd roared, hats flew, and a record was born that no one in baseball would surpass for 34 years. That Yankees squad, nicknamed Murderers' Row, was already considered one of the greatest teams ever assembled, and Ruth's achievement that afternoon gave the season a crown it has never lost.
