About Philippe Petit Walks Between the Twin Towers
On August 7, 1974, Philippe Petit stepped off the edge of the North Tower of the World Trade Center and onto a steel cable strung 1,350 feet above the streets of Manhattan, and the city held its breath. For nearly 45 minutes he walked, danced, lay down on the wire, and even saluted a passing seagull, crossing between the towers eight times. Below, office workers pressed their faces to windows and strangers stopped dead on the sidewalk, all of them staring up at a tiny figure threading the clouds.
