About Franz Liszt: The World's First Rock Star Takes the Stage
On October 22, 1811, Franz Liszt was born in Raiding, Hungary, and the world of music would never be quite the same. His fingers moved across the keyboard with a speed and expressiveness that left audiences gasping, women fainted, gloves were torn, and broken piano strings were kept as souvenirs. A tireless composer as well as a performer, he gave the solo piano recital its modern form and poured the full heat of the Romantic era into every etude and sonata he wrote.
