About The Festival of Lights

Each winter, as the longest nights settle in, the menorah is set in the window and its flames push gently back against the dark. The story behind those lights, a small vessel of olive oil that burned for eight days when one day's worth was all that remained, has kindled wonder for more than two thousand years. Latkes sizzle, songs fill the room, and the shamash, the helper candle, stands a little taller than the rest, ready to light them all.
